Lactic Acid is an organic acid with chemical formula C3H6O3. It is also known as milk acid. When milk sugar (lactose) undergoes fermentation, the product obtained is lactic acid. It is found in cottage cheese, leban, sour milk, yogurt, and Koumiss. Levo and Dextro are two forms of optical isomers of lactic acid. In the year 1780, Carl Wilhelm Scheele a Swedish chemist isolated lactic acid from sour milk for the first time. This compound is water-soluble and white in its solid state whereas it is colourless in its liquid state. The soluble salt of lactic acid like calcium lactate can be used as a source of calcium. The PH of 1 mM of lactic acid is about 3.51.

Industrial field
1. Electroless nickel plating complexing agent
Lactic acid has a unique complexation constant for nickel. More than 97% of the nickel ions in the electroless nickel plating solution of the lactic acid-nickel ion system are in the complex ion state, and the free nickel ion content is less than 3%. Therefore, lactic acid is commonly used for electroless nickel plating. One of the complexing agents. Compared with other complexing agents, lactic acid has strong stability in the plating solution, which can effectively control the deposition rate to ensure uniform and fine plating and stable plating solution. In addition, it is also very effective for suppressing the precipitation of nickel phosphite generated during the electroless nickel plating operation. 2. Paint and coating industry
